Join us for “OTM Office Hours”, a program series from the Washington University Office of Technology Management covering the latest topics in tech transfer and innovation.


Office Hours is hosting a discussion on “Healthtech AI”.  What is the state of Healthtech AI? What are any regulatory constraints with AI? How does one differentiate a product? What is the investment market like? Where are the value inflection points  for a startup?

OTM is pleased to welcome three speakers from our ecosystem for this panel discussion, including:

Shu (Joy) Jiang, PhD

Shu (Joy) Jiang, PhD

Dr. Jiang is an associate professor in the Division of Public Health Sciences at Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Jiang has made major contributions to original statistical methods research with a particular focus on breast cancer risk prediction using medical images. She is actively working on novel methods that capitalize on the exploding volume of data to improve our understanding of the breast cancer pathway. Her work has been recognized and funded by the National Institute of Health where she was awarded the NIH MERIT Award in 2021. Dr. Jiang was recognized as a member of the Forbes 30 under 30 in Healthcare for her development of statistical methods for precision oncology in 2023.

Graham A. Colditz, MD, DrPH

Dr. Colditz is an internationally recognized prevention researcher focusing on breast cancer. He is chief of the Division of Public Health Sciences and associate director for Prevention and Control at Siteman Cancer Center. He has studied breast cancer risk factors across the life course to advance understanding of how breast cancer develops in women. He has developed models to integrate these risk factors to predict future breast cancer diagnosis. Collaborating with Dr. Jiang, he has refined the use of both mammogram images, and H & E images from breast tissue biopsies to improve risk prediction. Through his career he has used innovative approaches to translate research to practice to achieve equitable improvements in population health.

John Kuelper is Senior Managing Director and Head of Healthcare Technology at Ascension Ventures (AV), a $1.1 billion strategic venture capital firm which invests on behalf of a consortium of thirteen non-profit health systems. John is Founder and Managing Partner of Qualia Holdings LLC, a platform for enterprise deep tech ventures. He has advised or worked for several investment firms, life sciences companies, and non-profits.

John began his career as a medical researcher studying computational neuroscience and medical robotics and has over fifteen years of experience as a software developer with an emphasis on knowledge graphs and information theory. John earned JD and MBA degrees from the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law and Kellogg School of Management, graduating with honors. He earned a BA in cognitive neuroscience from Washington University in St. Louis, graduating magna cum laude. In 2014 he was elected to the Kauffman Fellows Society.
