WashU will serve as the mentor institution to the University of Missouri – Columbia (MU) as part of the U.S. National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Accelerating Research Translation (ART) program. NSF announced in late 2023 the first-ever Accelerating Research Translation (ART) awards to empower academic institutions to accelerate the pace and scale of translational research that will grow the nation’s economy.
MU is one of 18 U.S. academic institutions to receive an Accelerating Research Translation award. This award will be used to set up a Technology, Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Hub at MU, supported by a four-year, $5.5 million cooperative agreement with the NSF.
Each of the 18 academic institutions selected a mentor institution for their ART project with MU selecting Washington University. Nichole Mercier, PhD, assistant vice chancellor and managing director of the Washington University Office of Technology Management (OTM), is co-principal investigator on the grant and OTM will work closely with MU on the project.
“One of the unique features of the ART program is a strong partnership between the awardee institution and a mentoring institution,” comments Mercier. “We look forward to working with MU to share our experience in commercializing technologies to help move innovations from the lab to the marketplace.”
