Transferring your material to another institution or company |

Please contact the Office of Technology Management when you become involved with transfer of materials to a non-profit
institution to support research. Our Office must manage this process to address the rights and obligations of the
recipient scientist, recipient institution, you and Washington University. All you need to do initially is contact
us and submit an Outgoing MTA Questionnaire. We will negotiate the agreements, manage correspondence, obtain required
signatures, provide you with copies of all agreements, and manage filing of agreements.
The questionnaire provides the essential information used to prepare a Material Transfer Agreement to send to the recipient investigator and institution. It also provides information regarding any and all relevant parties to the agreement. It is helpful for The Office of Technology Management to know specific information about the material that is to be provided. Under Washington University's Intellectual Property Policy, any materials sent from Washington University to outside investigators must be done under an MTA managed by the Office of Technology Management. We provide the questionnaire below as a pdf file. Please contact us at (314) 747-0920 if you would like to receive the questionnaire in another format or if you have any questions. Outgoing MTA Questionnaire (.pdf) MTAs address ownership of the transferred materials and of modifications or derivatives made by the recipient. They also address limits on the use of the materials by the recipient institution; confidentiality of information related to the materials; and rights to inventions and research results. Materials that are commonly transferred under Material Transfer Agreements are cultures, cell lines, plasmids, nucleotides, proteins, bacteria, transgenic animals, pharmaceuticals, and other chemicals. If a particular MTA involves the transfer of a specific material for the first time, please submit a Materials Disclosure Form to our Office. You need do this only once for a given material.
