Purpose of the Materials Disclosure Form
The Materials Disclosure Form notifies OTM about research materials you have developed in your laboratory that may be of interest to other researchers either in academia or industry.
When filling in the Materials Disclosure Form, please
- provide a clear, detailed description of the research material
- identify any related, prior Invention Disclosure or Materials Disclosure
- tell us about your publication plan
- identify collaborators
- identify any materials used in the invention that were obtained from external sources
- list all forms of research funding support
What is the difference between a Materials Disclosure and an Invention Disclosure?
In most cases, if you develop a research material — animal model, cell line, monoclonal antibody, assay, protein, plasmid — a Materials Disclosure is probably the best way to let us know what you have. If the material has secondary utility — therapeutics, diagnostics, medical device, etc. — you might submit an Invention Disclosure. If in doubt, submit an Invention Disclosure, and a Business Development Director at OTM will review the disclosure with you.
When complete, sign the form and return the original to the Office of Technology Management.
Please call us at (314) 747-0920 if you have any questions whatsoever regarding the Materials Disclosure Form or Invention Disclosure Form.
